Springfield to rename street to honor longtime South End leader Florian



Springfield – saying that it has given so much to the southern end of the city, the City Council unanimously called the Wendell Place in honor of Leo Florian.

Florian has been a 41 -year -old city employee, a member of the South End Citizens Council for 36 years, and his president for 27 years and has lived on the streets throughout his life. He is also a member of the Planning Council, said Shane Milette, vice president of the South End Council, who submitted the request.

Prior to Monday’s vote, members of the City Council called Florian that they deserved Honorary Street because of their service in the widespread community that goes far beyond the neighborhood.

Florian has helped guide a significant transformation of the South End. He was a comprehensive player when MGM Springfield was located in the South End and helped guide the reconstruction of the South End Community Center and other parts of the neighborhood following the Tornado June 2011The city councilor, Melvin Edwards, said, who said he is also proud to call Florian a good friend.
