Promenade in PJs: Worcester Public Library to hold ‘anti-prom’

During the promotion season, teenagers dress in their best new dresses, tuxedoes and new promotion dresses.

The Worcester Public Library It also celebrates a dance this month. But instead of black bonds and corsages, there will be different animal pajamas and slippers.

The Worcester Public Library will celebrate its first “anti-PROM” for people from 12 to 18 years old on April 29, according to a publication in the library Facebook page.

The event will make tapes, appetizers, music, dance, henna crafts and tattoos provided by Leominster’s business, Wicked Good Henna, according to Susan Elbag, teenage service librarian.

Elbag says the goal of “anti-PROM” is to provide a fun night for teens who may not be able to afford to go to the promotion or who want to experience the promotional in a calmer environment.

“We would like to go to the welcoming road,” Elbag said. “They can meet new friends, bring their friends and just be a celebration.”

Instead of being named king or promotion, the library will crown someone like the “most dressed” of the night, according to Elbag.

He encouraged teenagers to want to have fun -suggesting that giant monster or shoes can carry things.

“You could go with a theme and maybe make a welcoming version of a Halloween dress,” he said.

The Worcester Public Library is not the only library in the country that has an “anti-prompts” this year.

Several New York City Public libraries They also keep “anti-prompts” this year, with adolescents from 12 to 18 years old.

One of the advantages of going to an “anti-PROM”, according to Elbag, is that it is free.

He said that, in addition to spending money on a tuxedo or a dress, parents also spend money on promotion tickets, which makes the event expensive.

With the “anti-PROM”, there is no cost, according to Elbag.

“I think if teenagers really enjoy these types of programs, they are definitely something we could offer and we want to offer in the future,” Elbag said.

The Worcester Public Library is in 3 Salem St. of Worcester. The “anti-PROM” will take place from 18 to 19: 30h on April 29 in the library.
