Dozens of bunnies ceded to the MSPCA are ready to jump in the new houses with new owners during Easter Sunday.
The 44 rabbits are aged, with some up to 8 weeks, and consist of mainly large breeds such as California, Chinchilla and Rex, according to the MSPCA-Angell in a statement.
The rabbits were captured by the MSPCA law division on February 12, a Bristol county property because they were “allegedly subject to non -sanitary conditions,” said Mike Keiley, vice president of the Animal Protection Division, in a statement.
Animal cruelty positions are pending against the former rabbit owner, said MSPCA-Angell, who added that the rabbits were delivered to the organization on April 9.

“Despite their previous situation, rabbits are really sweet,” Keiley said. “We know that many people are thinking of bunnies, considering the proximity we are in Easter, so we are making a call: If you consider adopting a rabbit, now is the time, despite what some persistent myths may suggest on the Internet.”
There is a “wrong belief” that those who adopt a rabbit around Easter are not committed to taking care of them, “said Keiley.

“People who plan to get a rabbit often think about doing it now, only the season and there is no shame on it,” Keiley said.
“We want people to come in and adopt because they will still talk to an adoption counselor to see if a rabbit is a good fit for his family and we do not see that they will surrender to higher rates,” he added.
The largest rabbit breeds, of which many of the 44 rabbits are usually “more docile than the smaller breeds,” said Keiley.
The MSPCA-Angell intends to make spay and neutral all rabbits before they are prepared for adoption.
“Rabbits are large pets: they can form a cage of popes and have a similar relationship with people that cats and dogs,” Keiley said. “Includes how they share their home; they don’t need to be kept in cages all the time.”
Those interested in adopting a MSPCA rabbit can visit one of their three shelters during the open hours.
- Boston adoption center – Tuesday to Sunday from 12 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- MSPCA in Nevins Farm (Methuen) – Tuesday to Sunday from 12 to 16.30
- CAPE Codes Adoption Center (Centville) – Tuesday to Sunday from 1pm to 4pm
