A1 crash: Five in hospital after several police cars involved leaving Newcastle road closed


A large decline involving at least four police vehicles closed A1, which led to long delays on the main road.

The collision occurred on the bracket north nearby DentonNewcastle, shortly before 2.30 on Wednesday.

The national highways said A1 would be closed in both directions between Swalpel, in Gateshead and Denton on Wednesday afternoon.

Agency Statement: “Collision with several vehicles that results in serious injuries occurred in approximately 2.30 in the morning.

“Due to crash seriousness full Northembria Police The investigation is underway and advise that it will be extended.

“It is expected that the road will remain closed in both directions in the afternoon on Wednesday 9. April.”

Northumbria spokesman said: “Just before 2.30, today we got a collision report for more vehicles on A1 north near Derventheugh Road Junction, Gateshead.

“Emergency services are currently attending.

“The road section is closed in both directions – there are diversion on Dervethaugh cutcio north, and a69 circular flow for south. Motorists should use alternative routes where possible.”
