Springfield Catholic Charities loses federal funding, suspends refugee program, lays off 5



Springfield – Catholic charity The Roman Catholic Diocese Agency of Springfield suspended its refugee resettlement program and announced on Monday that it fired the five employees who worked with the newcomers displaced.

“Although this is a difficult change for those affected, charities will continue to honor their mission to serve those who are vulnerable to our communities through other outreach programs,” said the Rev. Michael GoodreauPresident of the Catholic Charity Agency.

Spokesman Mark Dupont said that Catholic charitable organizations told refugees that they should contact their social workers in the Transition Assistance Department.
