Glens Falls, NY-Els Worcester Railers HC (33-29-2-4 72PTS) demolished the thunder adirondack (24-38-3-3-3, 53PTS), on Friday night by a final score of 5-4 in front of a crowd of 4,457 in the cool insurance. The Railers are back in the ice the next DCU center on Saturday, April 5 at 18:05 east.
The Railers scored the first Friday night, while Matthew Kopperud gave Worcester a 1-0 2 of 2:03 in the first period. Adirondack did not hesitate to climb the board in the first, as they scored three goals in a row from Isaiah Fox (1-0-1), Dennis Busby (1-0-1) and Grant Loven (1-1-2). The first major score period was headed by a goal from Matias Rajaniemi (1-0-1), as it turned it into a 3-2 game in the second frame. The only score for the second period was from Worcester, as they marked three times, in front of 5-3. Anthony Callin (2-1-3) scored two goals in the second period, while Cole Donhauser (1-0-1) had the other goal of Railers. Adirondack scored the solitary goal of Dan Ebrahim’s third period (1-0-1), while Worcester kept victory 5-4.
The score arrived early and often in the first period, as Worcester reached the board earlier. Matthew Kopperud (16th) put Worcester ahead of 2:03 at the opening period. Adirondack returned to the right and scored the next three goals. The first came from Isaiah Fox (3rd), followed by a power goal from Dennis Busby (1st). Thunder’s third goal was Grant Loven (10th). Worcester reduced the deficit to a single goal, as Matias Rajaniemi (4th) turned it into a 3-2 game in the second period. The shots favored Worcester 12-9 in the first.
Everything was Worcester in the second, as they scored three goals and put ahead of 5-3 in the final 20 minutes of the game. The first goal of the second period was from Anthony Callin (22) who tied him to three each with his 3:36 goal in Callin’s goal from the second period was his second hand goal in his career. Callin was followed by Cole Donhauser (10th) 13:27 in the period. The period ended in the same way as Anthony Callin buried his second at night at 19:18 for his second goal without attendance at night. His second -attended second goal scored his fifth account without attendance of the season, breaking a draw with Barry Almeida and Nic Pierog for most in a single season in the history of Railers. Callin’s second goal was also winner of the game, marking his sixth of the season, tie him with six of Anthony Repaci in the 2021-22 season. The shots favored the Worcester 18-6 in the second.
Despite the eight goals combined during the first 40 minutes of play, neither team was able to score a goal until 17:23 on the third. It was Adirondack who scored the solitary goal of the third period, as Dan Ebrahim (1st) turned it into a game with Jeremy Brodeur went to the Thunder bench.
