FIFA report highlights women’s football inequalities
By Anne M. Peterson AP Writer Sports
Despite increasing care for women’s football worldwide, the vast majority of players and teams still fight for resources and investment.
On Monday, FIFA published his annual report on women’s game, highlighting inequalities throughout the sport.
The World Football Government Body extended the fourth edition of 34 leagues to 86 leagues and about 669 teams, providing a more accurate image of the state of the game. He analyzed the data in six areas: sport, governance, financial landscape, fanatic commitment, digital data and issues related to players.
The report separated the leagues into three levels, based on several criteria, including if the leagues had higher level competitions, the number of players on a list of the World Women’s Cup in 2023 or in a main tournament such as the euros of women and the budget of the Member Association for Women’s Football.
The report found that the average gross salary at all levels was $ 10,900, but this number was tilted by 16 clubs in the upper layer paying for players an average of more than $ 50,000. The average salary of top -notch teams was $ 24,030 worldwide, less than a living salary in many places.
Women’s football is still unprofitable, and top -notch leagues generate an average of $ 4.4 million, but they spend an average of $ 7.6 million. The lowest level had income of $ 76,000, with $ 182,000 on expenses. FIFA did not identify the individual clubs of each level.
The report said that only 22% of the clubs surveyed had female coaches.
Most top -notch leagues had offers of domestic diffusion (91%) compared to 32% of the lower level. Only 42% of third -level teams have a title sponsor, compared to 69% on top.
The report occurs when FIFA introduced two international tournaments of international clubs, the 2026 Women Champions Cup and the World Cup of the 2028 Women’s Club.
The organization announced earlier this month that 19 teams will participate in the first Women’s Club World Cup in January 2028.
The new Women’s Champions Cup will include the six continental club champions and will be played in January next year.
It is expected that the competitions will promote more investments by maintaining the attention of the players, even when it is not a year of the Women’s World Cup.
“This month FIFA announced the deadlines and formats for two new world competitions of FIFA FIFA Women’s Clubs,” said FIFA President Gianni Infantino in a statement on Monday. “ As we delve into the development of these tournaments, it is equally important that we offer information and resources to the interested parties of women’s football so that together we can build the existing solid foundations. The FIFA will use the findings to create programs as they will support the member associations to continue professionalizing women’s football, this is critical because we enter a new era for the women’s football.
