In the mid -1990’s, Lena Herzog was a study in California, studying philosophy at Mills College and teaching in Berkeley.
When he met for the first time Werner HerzogAt that time, a renowned filmmaker, she did not know who he was and had not seen any of her films.
Instead of going out to himself as a famous film director, Werner Herzog was a fund.
“He told me it was an acrobatics,” Lena told Anderson Cooper.
Kept upset for months. The couple even moved together before Werner revealed who he really was.
“And I thought,” My God, I fall in love … He is so bad that he is an acrobatics man. What will I say to my mother? , “Lena said to Cooper.
Today, the couple lives in California, a paradoxical ground for an eccentric author who has defied Hollywood conventions throughout their career.
“I live in Los Angeles because I fell in love,” Werner Herzog told Cooper.
Lena Herzog is a visual artist and photographer who works in various media.
She has taken pictures of her husband’s films, making documentaries including actors, such as Nicolas Cage, Chrisitian Bale, Chloë Sevigny and Michael Shannon.
She told Cooper that traveling with Werner for her film films is something that also works for her career as an artist.
“Wherever I go, I find a topic,” he told Cooper.
“And some of what I do is documentary photography because this was my original medium … I take pictures for their films.”
Cooper wanted to know what Lena was thinking about her husband’s career as an actor, playing Villans in the “Star Wars” series The Mandalorian and “Jack Reacher”.
“He’s very proud of it. He has lent himself,” he said.
In “Jack Reacher”, Werner plays the role of Zek Chelovek, a threatening and cold heart leader of a Russian gang who lost his mind after spending decades in Soviet gulags.
“I had friends in Paris who, in panic, called me and said … You are married to that man. Remember that we are only on a flight,” Lena said to Cooper.
“I think he is not afraid to make fun of himself and to allow other counselors to throw it in a way that is almost a caricature of him.”
Lena Herzog believes that her husband’s public perception as an obsessive filmmaker who will do anything for her art has established her for these roles.
“Werner is a type of games in this perception of him … which is this kind of wild man and capable of anything.”
But these perceptions are misleading, Lena argued.
“He is the sweetest man … he is a really, really sweet man, good.”
