Who is Nora “Andi” Nelson?

Leave Memphis to travel around the world, and specifically, in Boston, spoke of Nelson when she and Warren grew.

The two met in 2016 when they took the same classes at the New Ballet Ensemble & School in Memphis. At that time, Nelson was 15 years old and presented himself as “Andi”. He told Warren, at the age of 13, that “Nora” was a middle name.

They became “inseparable” friends after Nelson, who was “very trained” in various dance styles, asked Warren to learn a routine with her in the studio.

“My mother was strict with the people we were hanging with, but when she came to Andi, she never had a bad thing to say about her,” said Warren.

He recalled how they could eat or spend time in the houses and said, “Once Andi got his car, we were everywhere.”

“If I told my mother Andi he wants to pick up, he would only let me go, because he knew he was with Andi and we were sure,” he said.

In high school, Nelson had many dance and school friends and was known as a kind, respectful and “friendly”, said Warren. Many of the friends of Nelson High School were Upper Classmen, he added, because Nelson was on a good way to graduate.

Warren said his best friend had an entrepreneurial mentality, with great dreams of moving away from Memphis. Nelson was interested in pursuing a career in the field of engineering, said Warren, and used to sell brownies in the school hallways only to “make a bony buck”.

She “brought himself rich” and wore “upper class” clothes: Gucci was Nelson’s favorite, Warren said. The rise always had its nails and made sure that the hair was in perfect braids or a sewn.

“I loved it when I let me pass through his closet when I no longer wanted to carry things because I did all the fantastic things … I like to call -” Bougie “, said Warren.

When he was a boyfriend, Warren said that Nelson always came out with “older boys” who were 20 and 30 years old, but he was not sure when Nelson began to go out with men over 40.

Over the high school years, Nelson became a large part of Warren’s family. Babysat often after school for Warren’s little sister and stayed for dinner after Warren’s mother arrived at home.

There were nights when Nelson and Warren’s mother sat on long conversations at the table, long after the food was left out.

“She supported my mother a lot for the serious things of life, everything that happened … I know her and my mother had good and deep conversations because she couldn’t have it with her mother,” Warren said.

Masslive could not reach Nelson’s mother to comment on this story.

Warren characterized some of Nelson’s family relationships as tense and distant. Nelson and his mother “simply did not click,” Warren said, and Nelson heard that he did not receive as much “maternal attention” as his older brothers.

While Warren said that Nelson often spoke to his father and always “looked like a friendly guy,” Warren said he was “not so good.” Nelson “worshiped” his older brother, said Warren, but communication for them was hard with his military enlistment.

When Nelson graduated from high school, he immediately began his goals of traveling around the world as an entrepreneur, and that was when he began to lose contact with the people back home.

What happened to Boston?

Nelson and Warren kept contact over the years, while Nelson traveled through the United States, even continued to dance in Maine for some time, but his calls became less when Nelson “started his adult life,” said Warren.

It is ultimately believed that Nelson moved to Boston at some point after the pandemic. He lived in the apartment of the aforementioned domestic assault victim since they showed the court documents.

Warren did not know what Nelson did to work in Boston or otherwise, and said that Nelson was called “businessman” and that he had “colleagues”.

Donohue’s family issued a statement after being identified in February, but refused to comment further.

“Our family is puzzled by this unimaginable loss. Joe was a wonderful family member, a appreciated friend and a trusted colleague. Always generous and kind, he devoted his life and career to help others, “he read the statement.

“He is loved and he will miss himself deeply. We appreciate the love and support we have received, and ask for the privacy during this difficult time.”

When Masslive visited Charlestown Marina’s home ships, a man who said he was a Donohue friend said that he was a “fantastic type” who always shared his Red Sox tickets, but refused to comment further. He said he did not know Nelson.

The last time

It was a hot day in August 2024, the last time Nelson returned home to Tennessee.

Warren drove to Nelson to get some groceries and go out to eat. While the two caught -Warren couldn’t help but notice his best friend and brilliant, he was not herself.

“She was not my sister … It was difficult to sit there, her eyes were dead,” Warren said. Nelson also wore strange clothes, he said, and seemed to be “not there.”

“But Andi has never been that person, I would think he would only fall … He has never been the kind of person to ask for help when he happens for something,” Warren said.

Despite his appearance, Nelson never mentioned that there was anything bad that day and, in order not to do -the uncomfortable, Warren did not press him on how he felt.

When Warren left Nelson in his house in Tennessee, Nelson asked Warren to send “if you want to spend the time again”, which Warren did, but Nelson never did a text message.

“I just thought you may be in another streak of not talking to us; it was not recorded in my brain that something could be bad for reality,” Warren said.

But in the face of everything, Warren said he still loves his best friend.

“I still love him the same and everything … I will continue to love my sister because this is what she needs. She needs love,” Warren said.

“But at the same time, I have to let the system do its job and just ask them to give it a mental evaluation so that they can see that something goes wrong … I cannot sit here and say if it did, but in the way it was the last time we saw it, I know that something is wrong,” he said.
