In the letter referred to Thursday evening, federal officials demanded Columbia immediately to put their department for the Middle Eastern, South Asian and African Studies under “Academic Receipt for at least five years”.

This action means significant escalation in the Trump Administration campaign to reshape academic institutions.
It coincides with federal immigration officials who target certain student protesters, including Mahmoud Khalil, a pro-Palestinian activist arrested over the weekend for their involvement in the Demonstration at Columbia University.
In the Notice of the Student Body Thursday, Columbia University Officers said agents with Department of Homeland They searched two additional university residences with an order.
No one was arrested or detained, according to the temporary president of the University, Katrina Armstrong, who said that “heart” was to the news.
“Columbia continues to try to ensure that our campus, students, college and staff are safe,” Armstrong said in the statement.
“Columbia is dedicated to supporting the law, and we expect a city, country and federal agencies to make the same.”
The university did not immediately answer the message that searches for a comment on the requirements of the Trump administration.
