“The reduction of the current force reflects the commitment of the Department of Education to Efficiency, the accountability and the ensure that the resources go to where they matter: to the students, parents and teachers,” said the Secretary of Education Linda McMahon in a statement. “I appreciate the work of dedicated public officials and their contributions to the department. This is an important step in restoring the greatness of the United States’s education system.”
The Department said that the affected staff would be on leave from Friday, March 21, and will receive full salary and benefits until June 9, as well as separation and retirement benefits.
According to the Department of Education, the staff of the agency is reducing from 4,133 employees to about 2,183. Reductions include 259 employees who accepted the Agreement to resignant from Trump Administration.
