Westfield – A Southwick Man has been tried by charges that include cocaine traffic after a state soldier saw him using a cellphone while operating a motor vehicle on Major East Street.
The Trooper Sean Monteiro reports in a court document that, while in the routine patrol Monday, observed a motor vehicle operator through an electronic hand device at 16:20.
Stopping the car in a car park at Little River Road, the Trooper reports that he noticed “a strong smell of marijuana” and asked the operator, later identified as Joseph A. Rossi Jr, 22, 41, Fernwood Dr., Southwick, if he smoked marijuana in the vehicle. Rossi acknowledged that he did so, but said he had not done that day.
