A legendary country music group has added more dates to their farewell tour after previously sharing retirement plans.
The Oak Ridge Boys announced Wednesday that the band was expanding its “American Made: Farewell Tour”.
The tour was originally scheduled to run until December 2024, according to Taste of Country. However, the Country Music Hall of Fame members added new dates for 2025.
“We’ve had a lot of fun touring from city to city and seeing everybody,” member William Lee Golden told the band. newsletter which listed the 2025 tour dates.
“The response we’ve had to the new album has been wonderful,” he added, referring to The Oak Ridge Boys’ latest album, “Mama’s Boy,” which dropped in October 2024.
“We hope you love it as much as we do,” Golden said. “Keep checking our website as new dates will be added soon!”
The Oak Ridge Boys originally announced the “American Made: Farewell Tour” in September 2023. Golden previously spoke with billboard on the importance of the route.
“When you’re saying goodbye, there’s a lot of people you want to say goodbye to,” Golden told the network in 2023. “It’s all the people who supported you along the way, the ones who called the stations of radio, the one who came and bought tickets to see us sing and sat in the rain with the rest of us. It’s a lot of emotions, because the Oak Ridge Boys are a family, I mean, let’s go spend more time over the years together as a family and we made our own families, basically.”
The Oak Ridge Boys initially planned to pull out after first announcing the tour. The group’s tenor singer, Joe Bonsall, said January 2024 who would retire due to his battle with a neuromuscular disorder. he dead of complications from Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) in July following the age of 76.
“Joe loved to sing. He loved to read. He loved to write. He loved to play the banjo. He loved to work on the farm. And he loved the Philadelphia Phillies,” an Instagram post announcing the death of Bonsall says. “But Jesus and his family always came first, and we will see him again on the promised day.”
Now, the Oak Ridge Boys plan to play 20 more shows as part of the “American Made: Farewell Tour.”
