Johnny Cupcakes — the bakery-themed t-shirt shop on Boston’s Newbury Street — is closing after more than 18 years.
Owner Johnny Earle wrote in a facebook post Monday that the store’s last day of operation is Sunday, January 19.
“I’ll be there all day on this date if you want to stop by to say goodbye and wish me well in my next exciting chapter,” Earle wrote. “We’re open daily until then, and on January 19th we’ll be open regular hours. Come and grab a t-shirt from my smoking ovens!”
Earle said his decision to close stemmed from that lose your mother and Johnny Cupcakes being stolen last year
“This past year has given me clarity that I’m grateful for. I’m letting go of one thing (my store) to make more room for more important things: family, hobbies, finishing my book, launching a creative agency and raise the bar for my conferences and personalized corporate gift collaboration product program.” Earle wrote on Facebook.
Earle opened Johnny Cupcakes at 332 Newbury St. in boston in 2006. The store is known for its whimsical bakery-themed apparel that is often based on elements of popular franchises such as Disney, Dunkin’, Star Wars, Boston Celtics and more.
Earle added that Johnny Cupcakes will continue to sell clothing online and hold pop-up events as he pursues more opportunities as a keynote speaker.
“A tapestry of delicious things moving at my pace to allow me space to cry, breathe and be present, all while never losing that sense of wonder,” she wrote.
