Oscar De La Hoya On Ryan Garcia Vs. Rematch Devin Haney: “There’s no need for that”

Golden Boy Promotions boss Oscar De La Hoya says he prefers Ryan Garcia to forget about his rematch with Devin Hani and wants to fight WBO light heavyweight champion Teofimo Lopez instead.

With Ryan’s charisma and massive social media following, a bout between him and Teofim (21-1, 13 KOs) would bring in plenty of pay-per-view buys on DAZN.

Rematch is not necessary

It would be a match that would attract fans around the world as Teofimo is still seen as an undefeated fighter in many people’s eyes as his loss to George Kambossos Jr. was close and could have gone either way. Then Theo was sick and injured.

Turki Al-Sheikh is reportedly negotiating a rematch between Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney. That still doesn’t sit well with De La Hoya, who sees Devin already subdued by Garcia in his one-sided 12-round blowout against the Bay Area native.

Hannay should be back on the line because he has his chance against Kingry and he completely failed. All this crying Hannay has done since then about Ryan’s failed test looks bad, showing that he can’t admit he was beaten. You have to bet that if the rematch happens, Hannay will use Ryan’s failed PED test as his marketing strategy during the promotion.

Image concerns

It would be a huge negative for Ryan’s career if Devin and his dad, Bill, reminded fans that he tested positive for Ostarine in every interview. Even if Ryan wins again, his image will forever be tarnished just because of the Honeys’ constant bad-mouthing.

There could be trouble if Haney tries to get Ryan to agree to WADA against his wishes. She feels suspicious of Devin and his father, Bill Haney, pushing each other so hard.

De La Hoya doesn’t see the point in Kingry fighting a beaten opponent, Hani, having beaten him soundly last year on April 20. Returning for no real reason other than money is not good enough. Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs) can do a lot more.

The Golden Boy Plan

“I personally don’t see the need for it.” “Ryan destroyed him, and that’s the bottom line,” Oscar De La Hoya said Fight Hub TV about not seeing the need for a rematch between Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney. “We have to make the best possible fights.”

“There are fighters that we can put Ryan with anybody and make it a great event.” “If (Kingri and Teofimo) are the best at the moment, and that’s what people want to see, we have to succeed,” De La Hoya said.

A fight between Ryan and Theo would sell and generate fan interest. However, Hannay is not a PPV attraction, she lacks charisma and has little to say in interviews. His father, Bill Haney, gets fans interested in his fights. Dev already had his chance, so he blew it.

Henny had no money in that fight, and the only reason he saw the final bell was because the referee saved him in the seventh round.
