Turki Al-Shiekh says the outcome of Tyson Fury’s first fight against Alexander Usyk would be “different” that the Gypsy King’s father, John Fury, was not in his corner between rounds.
SugarHill and John Fury told Tyson to do things that weren’t effective because of his age, slow movements and colossal size. John’s advice was not a problem. When you have an old, limited fighter, even perfect instructions won’t help.
Fury looked like a dinosaur as he outmatched the faster, more agile Usyk. The instructions from SugaHill and John in his corner were completely useless to him.
Was John a nuisance?
John Fury was just there, giving simple instructions and not talking much. He sounded indifferent in the corner.
If anything, John was the only positive voice in Fury’s corner that night as the SugarHill Steward didn’t seem to be much help. He looked like someone who panicked when things went sour for Tyson.
Tyson’s real problem was Usyk’s talent. He wasn’t good enough to hit him, and he looked mentally weak when the talented Ukrainian hurt him in the ninth round.
Looking back on the fight, Tyson didn’t seem to pay attention to his father, John Fury, between rounds. He always looked to and listened to his trainer, SugarHill Steward, for guidance.
Fury’s real problem was his own inability to deal with Usik’s body shots, prompting him to struggle off the ropes. Tyson’s mobility was not there for this fight. He looked like age was catching up with him, preventing him from fighting in the center of the ring.
Fury (34-2-1, 24 KOs) lost his first fight via a 12-round split decision to Usyk (23-0, 14 KOs) on May 18, 2024.
“Fury-Usyk, the lack of atmosphere, I felt hindered him in the last two or three rounds. I felt it might have been different if it had been at Wembley (Stadium) in England. Maybe Tyson would listen,” he said Carl Froch on his YouTube channel about his belief that Tyson Fury would have defeated Oleksandr Usyk in their first fight on May 18, 2024 had the contest been held in London, England.
“It would have been different if his father hadn’t been in the corner,” he said Turki Al-Shiekh about Tyson’s father, John Fury, who was in the corner during the first Fury-Usick fight.
John seemed pretty harmless in the corner during the first fight. Some fans believe that John gave instructions that contradicted what the SugarHill Steward told him during the fight, but it was more a case of Tyson not having the talent to do what he was told.
