Eddie Hearn says George Kambossos Jr. will host a show in Australia in March. He won’t say who the former unified lightweight champion will fight, but says it will be among the top 15 contenders in his debut at 140.
‘The Emperor’ Kambossos is currently going through a rough patch in his career, losing three of his last four fights, and is considered a textbook example of a one-punch wonder.
George pulled off a miraculous upset of Teofimo Lopez in 2021 and made millions from that brief success. However, Kambossos has been on a downward spiral since then, losing twice to Devin Hani and being knocked out by Vasily Lomachenko. He is a flash in the pan.
“Boom” Hitchins in Kambosos’ sights
Kambosos (21-3, 10 KOs) says he will challenge Richardson Hitchins for the IBF light heavyweight title in the summer. Referring to the undefeated New Yorker as a “boom” Kambossos is confident that he will beat him and become a world champion in two divisions.
Hitchins spoiled Hearn’s plans for a big Australian clash by defeating IBF 140lb champion Liam Parro via a 12-round unanimous decision last month on December 7. Hearn had hoped to match Kambossos and Parr in a major Australian series in 2025, as the fight would sell big in the Australian market.
