Teofimo Lopez smashes “Punk” Hannay

Teofimo Lopez told Devin Haney he was thinking about his March 25 fight, calling him a “punk bitch” on social networks. WBO light heavyweight champion Lopez (21-1, 13 KOs) seems bitter that Devin didn’t accept the offer to fight him.

The offer was $2.4 million with a 55-45 split in favor of Teofim, who feels he deserved the bigger share because he’s the “king” of the 140-pound division. Haynie is only a former champion, losing to Ryan Garcia on April 20th.

The Wolves Circle Haney

Hannay (31-0, 15 KOs) will next fight on March 25 at BLT Prime against an opponent yet to be announced. The boxing public will be very interested to see who Hani faces on that date as he can pick just about anyone.

Fighters are not afraid to fight Hani after Garcia exposed him in 12 rounds by majority vote. He looked so bad in that loss to Kingry that the wolves at 140 are circling him, seeing him as easy prey. One of the wolves is Teofimo. He knows wounded prey when he sees it.

Many trust Ryan Garcia devastated Haney, and he is no longer considered elite or A-level. His decision to fight next at BLT Prime on March 25 is fueling the belief among fans that Devin is mentally and physically destroyed.

Devin hit the deck three times in that fight, and many believe the referee saved him from being knocked out in the seventh round by stopping the action to take away a point from Ryan for a strike on the break.

At the time, Hannay was on the verge of being knocked out by Garcia. Given that Haney’s loss was later overturned by the New York State Athletic Commission, it wouldn’t have mattered if Ryan had knocked him out.

Teofimo is expected to fight former IBF 140lb champion Subriel Matias (21-2, 21 KOs) on March 15th on ESPN+ on a Top Rank promoted card. Lopez has had a hard time getting big names to fight him.

He called out Terence Crawford, Jeron ‘Boots’ Ennis, Haney, Ryan Garcia and Jervonta Davis. The only ones interested in fighting Lopez are lightweight contenders Keeshon Davis and Matias. He’s not interested in fighting Keyshawn because he’s not a star.
