National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan will travel to India for a visit focusing on cooperation in strategic technology, including defense, space and artificial intelligence.
The Biden The administration said Sullivan’s visit on Sunday and Monday will include a speech at the Indian Institute of Technology in New Delhi in which he will emphasize that the outgoing administration sees America’s partnership with India as central to its regional and global priorities, and that with the support of both the main political parties. It is expected to be the last high-profile visit to India by the Biden administration.
Sullivan is expected to meet with India’s National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and India’s Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar.
India and the US have launched a technology initiative in 2022 outlining cooperation on semiconductor manufacturing and artificial intelligence development. The deal was key to a deal allowing US General Electric to partner with India’s Hindustan Aeronautics to manufacture jet engines in India.
India and the US have recently grown closer, partly in response to China’s growing assertiveness in the Indo-Pacific region. Biden trashed the prime minister Narendra Modi state dinner last year.
But ties were also strained by allegations by US prosecutors in 2023 that a Modi government official was involved in a foiled plot to kill an activist from India’s Sikh minority in New York and another Sikh activist in Canada.
