Prograis: Hannei needs a tune-up before Garcia rematch

Regis Prograis thinks Devin Haney isn’t fired, but says he won’t beat Ryan Garcia. He recommends that Hannay not have a rematch with Kingry unless it is fair “trying to cash in.”

It would be crazy for Devin to fight Garcia again without at least one setup to rebuild and see where he is at neurological. Kingry had Hannay all over him, dropping him six times in their fight last April, although the referee only counted three. The popular Southern California native hurt Devin whenever he wanted, and it looked too easy.

Tune-up Needed

If Dev sets up against a soft shot, he’ll find out if he can still land a decent head shot without hitting the face of the deck first. He can regain some of his confidence that may have been lost that night against Garcia at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Haney’s decision to sit out a year during Ryan’s suspension leads many fans to believe that he is waiting for him before he fights again. Is Devin (31-0, 15 KOs) waiting on Garcia to get that lucrative rematch, or does he want time off to rest after the blow he took in a 12-round majority decision loss on April 20?

If there’s any fear on Haney’s part about whether he can handle being hit by even a scribe, it makes sense for him to remain inactive and wait until Kingry’s one-year suspension ends in April. The last thing Devin needs is to get knocked out by some obscure ham & egger and lose the Garcia rematch for good.

“He’s no hitter, but I don’t think he’s going to beat Ryan,” Regis Prograis said ISM Sports Media on how Devin Haney fights his rematch against Ryan Garcia. “Ryan drove him crazy, and that will always be there.” No matter what Bill says, it will always be in the back of his mind. ‘Damn, he really beat me.’

“I don’t think they are, and I don’t think they should fight Ryan next. I think they should do a setup to see, and see how he (Haney) does, and then go from there. The only way they would do that (fight Ryan next) is if they try to cash out and get a crazy amount of money,” Prograis said.
