A man who was among four pedestrians hit by a car in west London on Christmas Day has died in hospital, Metropolitan police said. they named him Aidan Chapman.
Chapman, 25, was seriously injured in the accident on Shaftesbury Avenue and died on New Year’s Eve. Police said they are treating the death as a homicide and “an isolated incident that is not terror-related” and that a post-mortem examination will take place in due course.
Chapman was one of four pedestrians who were hit by a Mercedes-Benz E-Class car, which was on the left side of Shaftesbury Avenue in the theater area.
Chapman’s parents said: “Losing our beautiful son is a parent’s worst nightmare, we are absolutely devastated by the loss of Aidan, he enriched everyone’s life. He was a loving, kind, salty soul and the world was a darker place without him. We, his parents, have lost the best part of us.
Anthony Gilheaney, 30, of Harlow in Essex, appeared in court last week on four counts of attempted murder and a number of offenses including causing grievous bodily harm while disabled and brandishing a knife in a public place. He is due at Old Bailey on January 24th.
Charges are pending after Chapman’s death, Alet said.
