A Salem man was ordered arrested Monday following a dangerousness hearing after police say he tried to rob a couple at knifepoint before trying to rob another last week.
Eric Mackie, 25, was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, attempt to commit a felony (theft), armed assault to rob, assault with a dangerous weapon and violation of the city’s knife ordinance, according to the Salem Police Department.
During his arraignment in Salem District Court, Mackie pleaded not guilty, according to the court clerk.
Mackie is also being held without bond and is due back in court on Jan. 6, 2025, for a detention hearing, according to Salem District Court.
Mackie tried to rob a couple near Dow and Park streets on Dec. 27 around 8:47 p.m., police said.
Mackie fled and confronted another man and demanded money at knifepoint, police said. A struggle ensued before nearby family members came to his aid.
A husband and wife suffered minor injuries during the fight over the knife, police said. When police arrived, Mackie was restrained by the man.
