PEABODY – Several children were injured when a giant LEGO display collapsed during a New Year’s Eve event for children in Peabody, Mass., Tuesday afternoon.
According to the Peabody Fire Department, the balloons would be released from the net inside the “In the Game” family fun center and arcade. The company has posted a video of the setting on Facebook before opening to the public on Tuesday.
The net was attached to an eight-foot-tall LEGO structure, but staff had trouble releasing the balloons once the children and their families entered. said the fire department.
A total of ten people were injured. Six of them were children and four were adults, authorities said, but all of the injuries were described as “minor” scrapes and cuts. Some of the injured were taken to Salem Hospital for treatment and others went to Lahey Medical Center in Peabody.

“It was pure chaos”
Lawren Turco was there at the time with his family.
“We saw the whole balloon fall we had no idea anything had happened until we were speeding after the balloon fell,” he told WBZ-TV in a message.
“Big LEGO pieces were everywhere, kids were crying, there were loads of people in the office, some with ice packs on their heads and people letting their kids steal the Lego pieces as souvenirs. It was pure chaos. I had no idea about the actual events until after the incident.”
In the Game was briefly closed after the incident, but reopened a short time later. There is no comment from the company yet.
Peabody is about half an hour north of Boston.
