Zhilei Zhang says a fight between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua “doesn’t mean much” at this point in their careers. It’s like, who cares? These guys are just fighting for money in a meaningless fight. If Turki Al-Sheikh wanted to be tough, he would have made Fury and Joshua cash in by first stepping over a bed of hot coals and facing Martin Bakole.
Zhang notes that the two British heavyweights used to talk about fighting years ago when they both held world titles, but now that they don’t, they still do. He sees Joshua-Fury as a fight that would only prove who is ONE of the best heavyweights in the UK, not the best.
In order for Joshua to fight Fury to prove who is the best British heavyweight, they must defeat Daniel Dubois, Moses Itauma and Fabio Wardley.
It’s doubtful that any guy can beat those three young lions. Joshua (28-4, 25 KOs) has already come up short against Dubois, being knocked out in the fifth round on September 21 in front of a crowd of 90,000 at Wembley Stadium in London. Unsurprisingly, Fury has no desire to confuse him with Dubois. He knows his limitations.
The whole purpose behind Fury’s fight against Joshua is money. That’s it – just the dough. No guy needs extra cash, but he won’t turn it down.
A pointless fight
“Usik is absolutely indisputable and I think he gave a much better performance than in the first fight.” I had it one-sided. “I think he is the king of the heavyweight division,” Zhilei Zhang said Secondsouttalking about Alexander Usyk’s victory over Tyson Fury last week.
“I don’t think that fight means much in terms of belts and championships because that fight has been talked about for years,” Zhang said of the Fury-Anthony Joshua fight. “When both of them had the belts, it was the talk of the town.” Now, none of them have a belt and they’re still talking about it.
“I think it’s a good way to see who is one of the best heavyweights in the UK, but other than that, I don’t see any meaning to that fight other than a wake-up call,” Zhang said.
It’s not like Fury and Joshua are both washed up at this point in their careers. They were never as good as their fans thought they were. Neither of them beat solid fighters like Martin Bacole or Daniel Dubois during their careers.
AJ and Gypsy King took advantage of the weak opposition that was around and were closely followed by their promoters.
It would be better if Fury and Joshua beat someone first before meeting in a ‘Battle of Britain’ match in 2025, but they probably won’t mind. Their confidence level must be at an all-time low and they won’t want to risk losing to someone else. Joshua already had a whole package of rebuilding fights, and it didn’t help. Fury hasn’t beaten a talented fighter in years.
