This year, the likes of Sainsbury’s, Aldi, Waitrose, Tesco and Morrisons have stocked up on great Boxing Day dishes for everyone to enjoy.

But with many stores planning to close their doors at various times in the coming days, knowing where to pick up extra food or drinks can be confusing.

So, to make things easier for you, we’ve put together a handy list of opening and closing times for major supermarkets over the festive period.

Tesco

Tesco Store opening hours vary across the country, so customers are advised to check with their local store before heading out.

Reduced opening hours will be in place on bank holidays, New Year’s Day and New Year’s Day, while all shops and petrol stations will be closed on Christmas Day.

  • 26 December – Tesco Extras and superstores open from 9am to 6pm, Express stores open from 9am to 7pm
  • 31 December – Tesco Extras and superstores open 5am to 7pm, local shops open 6am to 10pm
  • January 1 – superstores open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., express stores from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Asda

Asda stores will operate with reduced hours on holidays, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

  • December 26 – open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m
  • From December 27 to 30 – normal business hours
  • December 31 – open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m
  • New Year’s Day – open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m
Asda

Sainsbury’s

Normal business hours will resume for Sainsbury’s‘s store on January 2, while Boxing Day, New Year’s Day and New Year’s Day will have reduced hours.

  • December 26 – open from 9 am to 6 pm (local stores open from 9 am to 9 pm)
  • December 31 – open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. (local stores from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.)
  • January 1 – open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. (stores open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.)

Morrisons

Morrisons shops vary, closing at 6 or 7 p.m. There will be reduced opening hours on Boxing Day and normal opening hours will resume between 27 and 30 December.

There will also be reduced hours on New Year’s Day and New Year’s Day before normal hours resume on January 2.

  • December 26 – open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. (Punin filling stations are open from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.)
  • December 31 – open from 6 or 7 a.m. to 7 p.m
  • January 1 – open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m

Marks and Spencer

M&S stores will be closed on Boxing Day, with reduced opening hours from December 27-30 and New Year’s Eve.

Most stores are expected to be closed on New Year’s Day, but customers are advised to check with their local store.

  • From December 27 to 31 – closed at 7 p.m
  • January 1 – closed

Aldi

Aldi will be closed on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. Regular business hours from December 26th to December 30th.

  • December 27 and 28 – open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m
  • December 29 – open from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m
  • December 30 – open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m
  • December 31 – open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m
  • January 1 – closed

Lidl

Lidl stores will not be open on New Year’s Day. Some stores will be closed on Boxing Day, but customers are advised to check with their local branch first.

Regular hours between December 27th and 30th and reduced hours on New Year’s Eve.

  • January 1 – closed

Waitrose

Most stores WaitroseWelcome Break service stations as well as Shell petrol stations will be closed on Boxing Day and New Year. A small number will reportedly be open to the public and for Uber Eats and Deliveroo orders.

Amazon Fresh

There are around 20 Amazon Fresh stores in the UK and customers have until 6pm on December 24 for same day delivery by 10pm.

All stores will be open from 8am to 9pm on Christmas Eve except Holborn, Moorgate and Liverpool Street which will be closed on 24 December.

Amazon Fresh Online orders are available

  • Order by Boxing Day (December 25) for Boxing Day delivery from 12pm.
