Shakur Stevenson wants to see Tyson Fury fight IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois after losing his rematch against unified champion Oleksandr Usyk last Saturday night in Riyadh.
Fury should fight Dubois, but he won’t come close to this top predator. With the way Dubois goes to the body, Fury would be very vulnerable in his delicate state.
I don’t think Shakur understands what Fourie is about. He’s taking calculated risks, and he’s not about to put his head on the block facing Dubois’ walking guillotine. If Fury is true, Audie Murphy guy, you wouldn’t have to ask him twice to face Dubois. He’s not about that though. A fight against Dubois would be bad for Fury’s health.
Too powerful, too young?
It would show great courage on Gypsy King’s part to agree to fight Dubois, because after what he had just been through, he would not want to suffer a third straight loss. It would be an easy fight to make, considering Fury and Dubois share the same promoter, Frank Warren.
Before Fury’s two losses to Usyk, he considered himself the best fighter in the division. His fans saw him as the best, and they didn’t care that his resume lacked quality wins.
Many fans would also like to see Fury (34-2-1, 24 KOs) fight Dubois (22-2, 21 KOs) next. This would allow him to end his two-game losing streak and increase interest in the fight against Anthony Joshua.
As things stand, Fury would enter the AJ fight with a 0-2 record in his last two fights, which would put their bout on the money. It is almost impossible that Fury and his promoters would agree to fight the 27-year-old Dubois.
He is too powerful, too dangerous and too young for Fury. The gypsy king was injured by Usik, which is not a blow. Fury’s three fights against Deontay Wilder did him some good.
Fury’s calculated risks
Fury’s promoter, Frank Warren, and Anthony Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, are interested in the next fight between the two. Hearn said he would like the first fight to be at Wembley Stadium in London and the second in Riyadh.
Hearn is in a mad rush to make the Joshua-Fury fight because he knows these two guys are too far gone to be trusted to fight top 15 contenders unless they’ve been vetted well beforehand and are considered 100% safe.
