American Airlines has suspended its flights over US on Christmas Eve in the middle of one of the busiest travel times of the year.

“A technical issue is affecting American flights this morning,” an airline spokesman said CNN Tuesday morning. “Our teams are working to resolve the issue as soon as possible and we apologize to our users for the inconvenience.”

The airline wrote on X in response to one passenger that it is “currently experiencing a technical issue with all American Airlines flights.

“Your safety is our highest priority, once this is corrected you will be safely on your way to your destination.

“The estimated time frame is not given, but they are trying to fix it as soon as possible,” it added.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced a state order to ground all US flights at the request of an airline, advisory the notice shows.

The Independent has contacted the FAA and American Airlines for comment.
