A driver has died after his car crashed into a guardrail on the southbound side of Route 3 in Duxbury early this morning, the Duxbury Fire Department announced.
Around 4:52 a.m., firefighters received a 911 call about a vehicle accident near Mile Marker 23.4 on Route 3, the department said in a statement. On-duty firefighters were on call to respond to another emergency, requiring off-duty firefighters to go to the crash site.
Firefighters arrived to find the car broken down.
“The driver was ejected from the vehicle and tragically did not survive the crash,” Deputy Fire Chief Brian Monahan wrote in the statement.
There were no passengers inside the car and no other vehicles were involved in the crash, according to the statement.
The southbound side of Route 3 was closed for several hours to allow the crash scene to be cleared.
