Earlier today I present to you the following two prompts loosely related to 2025 (For more information please read the number 2025 the original post.) Here again are the solutions.
Queens and men
Place five queens and three men on a 5×5 grid so that no queen invades the pawn.
The queen can move horizontally, vertically or diagonally. Therefore, unaccustomed to the rules of chess, he tries to place the five puzzle pieces on the grid in such a way that these pieces are exactly three cells, so that they cannot move either vertically or diagonally.
The solution
Christmas star
There are 5 triangles in this five pointed star. Can you draw two lines through the star to create a picture with 10 triangles? In this puzzle, there are only triangles that have no lines, although the triangles count. There’s no trick to the problem – it’s simple to do!
The solution
While solving this puzzle by trial and error, an educated guess might be to use the two lines to make a new star, which will give another 5 triangles. This is the solution – the new star has its center in the top triangle of the old star, and makes seven new triangles. The two triangles of the old star have lines through them and must be discounted, leaving ten in all.
I hope you enjoy today’s puzzles – see you next year!
I’ve been posting here every other week since 2015. I’m always puzzled by the big mirrors. If they suggest one email me.
