Bangladesh has submitted a formal demand to India to extradite the former prime minister Sheikh Hasinawho fled to New Delhi in August amid student-led protests that ended his 15 years in power, according to the country’s foreign affairs adviser.
They have ties between South Asian neighbors who have strong trade and cultural links bring because Hasina is distracted by great dissuasions he pushed back his dominion beyond the borders.
Dhaka’s request to New Delhi comes two weeks after the foreign secretary visited India Bangladesh and the two regions hoped to clear the clouds and pursue the buildings.
“We have sent a verbal note to the Indian government saying that Bangladesh wants the government [Hasina] here it goes back to the judicial process, “Touhid Hossain told reporters, referring to the diplomatic correspondence between the two countries.”
Hossain did not elaborate on the judicial process.
Neither India’s foreign ministry nor Hasina’s son, Sajeeb Wazed, immediately responded to requests for comment.
“We confirm that we have received a note verbale from the Bangladesh High Commission today in connection with the extradition request. We have no comment to offer on this matter at this time,” said India’s official spokesperson for the foreign ministry.
The interim head of the government of Bangladesh, Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus, has demanded it India send Hasina back so that Bangladesh can prove her for the said crimes against her protesters and her opponents, and the crimes she is accused of committing during her tenure for the past 15 years.
Yunus was also upset with Hasina for criticizing her administration from New Delhi.
Hasina faces numerous charges including crimes against humanity, genocide and murder, among others. He denies the charges.
India’s foreign secretary Vikram Misri visited Dhaka this month and reiterated India’s commitment to further building a relationship with Bangladesh.
New Delhi said Hasina had come to India quickly for “health reasons” and would continue to stay without further elaboration.
