Tyson Furyis unanimous points defeat of unified heavyweight champion of the world Oleksandr Usyk in Riyadh was labeled “nuts” by the promoter Frank Warren.
Fury lost 116-112 on all three judges’ score sheets as his quest to avenge his only career loss finally came to an end with the exceptional Usyka retained his WBA, WBC and WBO belts.
36 year old from Morecambe left the ring after the decision was read, leaving Warren to do so protest about the outcome.
“I’m stunned, they gave him four rounds out of 12 rounds, that’s impossible, one judge didn’t give him a single round from the sixth round onwards,” the Queensbury Promotions boss told DAZN.
“Only four rounds. Each of them gave him four rounds, four different rounds. How can that be? That is impossible. That’s crazy. That’s nonsense. What fight did they watch?
“I’m not saying this because I’m biased, but everyone at the front thought it was the same.
“It’s crazy. That’s crazy, I don’t understand. I’m really disappointed with that. I thought he controlled the fight and boxed extremely well. Usyk was on the back for most of the fight, but it is what it is.”
Fury’s future is now in question after his second straight loss to Usyk, but Warren refused to speculate on what he might do.
“I don’t know. He is very disappointed, as am I. It’s up to him,” Warren said. “It’s too early, right after the fight. Obviously, emotions are running high. We will have to wait and see what happens with Tyson in the future. He will have to make up his mind.”
Usyk invited Saudi Arabia’s powerful boxing broker Turki Alalshikh to arrange a rematch with Daniel Dubois after the British IBF champion entered the ring during the post-fight interview.
Dubois was knocked out in the ninth round by Usyk in August 2023, but has since made an impressive comeback, culminating in his explosive loss to Anthony Joshua in October.
“I want my revenge. I want my revenge Usyk! Well done tonight, well done. God bless. I want my revenge for the robbery last time. Let’s go, let’s go. Do it, Frank!” Dubois said.
Usyk replied: “Your Excellency, you are fighting Daniel Dubois. Thank you very much. I can do more. I’m ready to fight (Dubois), no problem. The next fight is no problem. Now I want to go home and rest.”
Usyk paid tribute to Fury who took part in another classic meeting of the compelling rivalry.
“He’s a great fighter, a great opponent and it was a great 24 rounds. An incredible 24 rounds in my career. Thank you very much,” said Usyk.
