The former Republican Party chairman has turned the tables on Donald Trump’s long-running criticism of Joe Biden and suggested the president-elect may now be “too old” to hold his own — especially against his new “best friend” Elon Musk.
Michael Steele hit out amid scathing rebuke from lawmakers to Trump after the tech billionaire appeared to play a major role earlier this week through X in killing the first bipartisan deal on temporary government funding floated by Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson.
Trump issued a statement agreeing with his billionaire backer only after Musk launched the initial attacks, leading some to deride Trump as a Musk stooge more the president.
Steele took a shot at MSNBC The weekend on Saturday with host Symone Sanders Townsend when she wondered what happened to the stubborn Trump on his reality show.
“Where is Donald Trump from Apprentice?” she asked “The man who talks about hire, fire, hire, fire, you go. Donald Trump, who I thought was elected by the people — not me, but other people — is the one who would usually want to pass the law and be clear about where he stands.”
Steele interjected, “Maybe he’s too old for the job now.”
“He’s getting old,” Sanders Townsend replied.
Trump, 78, has repeatedly blasted Biden as an old man over the years, even though the president is only four years older than the president-elect.
Trump will become the oldest president in US history. Some of his behavior in recent years has already raised concerns among critics about his continued competence as he enters his 80s in the White House.
During his last Trump administration they mention airfields during the American Revolutionary War. There is flubbed locations he’s in there and i amteeth of people (including “Leon” Musk), mined words and wasted much of what should have been a Q&A campaign in October instead swaying to the music.
Congress finally approved a state spending account Friday just hours before a midnight deadline that would shut down the government before Christmas. The bill to fund the government through mid-March was the third attempt in two days to avoid a shutdown, after Musk and Trump ordered the first to be scrapped and the second package failed.
Trump sought, but failed to win, a debt ceiling raise as part of the funding deal, even though he promised to reduce, not increase, the national debt.
He wooed Musk and former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy to target what Musk promised would be around $1 trillion. But at the same time, Trump has prioritized more tax reduction in his second term, which tax experts say could add another $4 trillion to the U.S. debt over the next decade.
