Southampton have confirmed the appointment of Ivan Juric as manager on an 18-month contract.
The Croatian, who was snapped up by Roma last month, joins the club at the bottom of the Premier League, parting company with Russell Martin this week. The referee is awaiting final approval of the job, with Simon Rusk likely to take charge of Southampton’s game at Fulham on Sunday.
“Despite the club’s current position in the Premier League, we remain fighting for this season’s survival, and this appointment will provide us with the confidence and determination we need for better results on the pitch,” read the club’s statement.

“Juric, a former Croatia international player, arrived at Saints on the 18th month of his contract with a reputation for helping teams punch above their weight.
“He has had a sixty-year career in Italy, most recently with the European giants Roma, but also presided over spells at Mantua, Crotonia, Genoa, Hellas, Verona and Torino with notable success.”
Juric, who replaced Ralph Hasenhüttl in the shortstop at Saints two years ago, made 12 games for Roma after being appointed in September, but has been seen to improve with performances from his new team.
“I’m very happy. I think it’s really a big challenge, but I’m very optimistic because I saw a team that can do better. It’s important to immediately connect with the fans. I want an aggressive team and I think Southampton fans will be like that.
