Ex-Patriot says thought of Bill Belichick with Jets was twisted, but fun

McCourty said it’s easy to fantasize about how that would turn out if Belichick returned to the NFL with a job in New York.

“As much as Jets fans hate him, they would have loved to have him in their building just to give the Patriots their payoff. That whole thing would have been interesting,” he said. “It would have been one of the best Hard Knocks. Everything they could have done with it, we would have needed as much behind-the-scenes footage as possible.”

McCourty initially had a hard time wrapping his head around it Belichick Coaches Collegebut he thinks it’s great that he took a job at UNC where his dad coaches.

The three-time Super Bowl champion said he knew in September, when he saw Belichick at a Rutgers-Washington game, that his former coach would be back.

He asked Belichick how he was enjoying all his media gigs, and the coach unenthusiastically replied, “Okay.”

“I knew right there, when he just said he was fine, and then he was watching certain Washington players and what they should do in the game … it was coach mode,” McCourty said. “There he knew he was going back to football. He doesn’t want to be on a podcast, talking about football and talking about what he thinks. He wants to be a coach and have a chance to win.”
