Emilia Pérez shows early promise in Oscars race as Academy releases shortlists in 10 categories | Oscars


Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (Ampas) has released the shortlists for its 10 award categories including best international feature and best song on Tuesday, the prospect will be solidifying Emily PerezDirected by Jacques Audiard, the gangster musical stars Zoe Saldaña and Karla Sofía Gascón.

They are the middle point in the shortlists Oscars voting process, when members of the relevant branch of the Academy vote, contenders from all titles can be submitted and selected.

Films in this category are included; Emily Perez The strongest comes with six places, including two for the best song (El Mal and Mi Camino) and one for the best international film, to which France was submitted.

ungodly was the second strongest performer, appearing on four shortlists, including makeup and hair and visual effects. Although the film is a musical, none of its songs are Oscar-eligible as they are not “original”.

While several major contenders appear scattered throughout the catalog – including Brutalist, Provocations, The Room, Dune: Part Two and Substance – others are conspicuous by their absence. AnoraCannes Palme d’Or winner and strong hopeful for best film, best actress and best director is not mentioned; nor is he Nickel Boyswhich was already feeding the thread of the critics. However, since they cover short appearances in which neither feature is expected, their omission does not appear to justify a lack of interest from Oscar voters.

The final nominations in each category will be announced on January 17, and the Oscar ceremony will take place on March 2.
