Five days after a Massachusetts lottery player won $1 million in Mega Millions drawing, the game’s jackpot has reached $740 million before Tuesday night’s drawing.
The estimated cash value of $740 million Mega Millions the jackpot is $342.9 million as of Tuesday morning. There have been no jackpot winners since September, when a single ticket sold in Texas won the $810 million prize.
In the latest Mega Millions drawing on Friday, December 13, someone in Massachusetts matched the first five numbers drawn to win $1 million. The winning ticket was sold at Ghafour Fuel in Norwood.
The date of December 17 has been lucky for big jackpot winners in the past, according to them Mega Millions data. On December 17, 2019, an Ohio lottery player won the $375 million jackpot, and two winners from California and Georgia shared a $648 million prize on December 17, 2013.
“Could next Tuesday mark the third December 17 jackpot win in Mega Millions history?” a statement from Mega Millions said.
If successful, this would be the eighth largest prize in Mega Millions history. The Mega Millions jackpot has been hit just three times in 2024, the fewest won in a single year since the game began, according to Mega Millions.
