Trailer for 28 years laterr has officially made his mark, becoming one of the greatest of all time.

From garnering over 60 million views in the first 24 hours of release, to dominating social media with fan speculation about the role of “zombified” Cillian Murphy in the clip, the buzz for the new film was huge.

Directed by a British director Danny Boylethe original film in which he stars Cillian Murphy and Naomie Harris, 28 days later, follows the survivors of an incurable virus that is ravaging the world. It grossed $84.6m (£64.2m) from a budget of just $8m (£6.1m) in 2002.

The sequel is unfolding 28 years after the first outbreak of the rage virus and watches the survivors navigate an infected post-apocalyptic landscape.

With nearly 150 million views, it has become the second most watched horror trailer of all time, according to Deadline. It’s right behind the horror trailer That Chapter Two, which received 96 million views in the first 24 hours of its publication.

Fan response to the teaser led to Sony releasing it would be a reissue 28 days later for digital purchase and rental on December 18. The film has been unavailable on streaming sites for years due to rights issues.

It was produced and distributed by Fox Searchlight Pictures, which is now owned by Disney. However, rights to 28 days later are owned by Sony, which won the bidding for 28 years later in February.

The movie follows from the second sequel, 28 weeks laterwhich was released in 2007 and is available for streaming on Disney’s Hulu platform.

Unlike the first film in the series, which had a modest budget of just £8m, the new installments have a reported budget of £75m each.

The first trailer for the big new horror film was unveiled earlier this week, and some fans are sure to have noticed the zombified version of Murphy in the promo clip.

The new film stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jodie Comer and Ralph Fiennes and he wrote civil war and Ex Machina directed by Alex Garland.

It has also been confirmed that the actor who plays the “Skinny Infected” in 28 years later it is not Oppenheimer star but a newcomer named Angus Neill, The Guardian reports.
