South Korean law enforcement authorities will seek out that impeached president Yoon Suk Yeol to appear for questioning this week over his short-lived emergency decree as they widen an investigation into whether his ill-conceived power grab this month amounted to rebellion.
A joint investigation team including the police, the anti-corruption agency and the Ministry of Defense plans to forward a request to Yoon’s office for him to appear for questioning on Wednesday, police said Monday.
Yoon was impeached by the controlled opposition National Assembly on Saturday because of his implementation of martial law on December 3. His presidential powers will be suspended until Constitutional Court decides whether to formally remove him from office or to reinstate him.
