While a man has come forward to claim two of the 26 winning tickets were sold for a Mass Cash drawing in September, the mystery of who won the other 24 prizes may continue into the new year.
Wellesley’s Aldo Voci stepped up to claim two of the Massive cash prizes won during the September 27 October 1 draw. The winning numbers for the draw on Friday 27 September were 5, 12, 13, 16 and 35.
Voci bought his two winning tickets at Nouria Energy in Allston. One of his tickets was a Quic Pic, and he selected the numbers for his other ticket.
Until December 16, there are still 24 prizes left to claim from the September draw.
Four of those remaining prizes came from tickets that were also sold at Nouria Energy in Allston. The other 20 are from tickets sold at Harborpoint Liquors store in Dorchester.
This is the third highest amount of Mass Cash tickets matching all five numbers in a single drawing. The highest amount was 50 tickets on December 6, 2020 and the second highest amount was 34 winning tickets on October 18, 1993.
But while players who match all five Mass Cash numbers usually win prizes of $100,000, Friday’s 26 hits were worth $88,856 each.
That’s because the total amount of prizes won in the drawing was more than 1,000 percent of the drawing’s net sales, the Massachusetts State Lottery said. Therefore, “prize amounts are determined using a formula,” according to a statement from the Lottery.
There were also 63 tickets sold that matched four numbers to win $222, instead of the usual $250, and there were 2,944 tickets that won $8 instead of $10.
Mass cash drawings are held nightly at 9:00 p.m., and tickets, or plays for each drawing, are $1 each. Players must choose five numbers between 1 and 35.
