Pant to do well at two wide, while running through the deflector. The first Lyons gets his run, acting square, and judging the second well.
113th over: Australia 436-8 (Carey 65, Lyon 0) After the rain resumed, Carey was happy to run the first ball to Jadeja.
112th over: Australia 435-8 (Carey 64, Lyon 0) Sorry, got distracted before the rain and forgot to note the 112 over that happened before sunrise. A run to Carey from Akash Gurgite in that one.
Weird stuff at the break, Seven’s running segment is a full compilation including pre-recorded interviews with teammates about Steve Smith reaching 10,000 Test runs, which he hasn’t done yet… Still short of 195, he could not easily reach this series.
It would seem like a short break at least.

111th over: Australia 434-8 (Carey 63, Lyon 0) Almost run out! The ball goes to mid-wicket and Carey runs away. Lyons to concentrate on his ground to the end of the striker. It was good for Australia that Jadeja was bowling, not fielding, so Gill’s shot was a touch wide of the stumps and Pant had to collect it.
110th over: Australia 433-8 (Carey 62, Lyon 0) Akash Deep carries, Lyon gets hit with the fifth ball and tries to pull a bolder shot. He likes them. It fails this time.
109th over: Australia 432-8 (Carey 61, Lyon 0) Jadeja is burning through his rounds, getting a bit of an exit now. One.
108th over: Australia 431-8 (Carey 60, Lyon 0) Akash Gurgite replaces Bumrah after just two overs; and staggered! Carey throws a hidden cover and pushes it into the stands! Kindness to me.
107th over: Australia 424-8 (Carey 53, Lyon 0) Jadeja continues to go, and gets through the break after Carey’s first ball.

106th over: Australia 423-8 (Carey 52) Bumrah gets six! Starc slapped him for a four through backward square leg, aiming for a direct whack, but the slower ball foxed Bumrah Starc on a spur to it and the last ball landed over the keeper.
105th over: Australia 419-7 (Carey 52, Starc 14); Well, Starc likes to hit the spin! Banged the senior team in the innings once at the MCG, and for the first time in this innings, he sent Jadeja over midwicket.
104th over: Australia 411-7 (Carey 51, Starc 7). Bumrah from the other end, and perhaps a little slow to get going after his efforts yesterday. Starc defends quite solidly.

103rd over: Australia 411-7 (Carey 51, Starc 7). Not a good start from India so far. Jadeja calls one ball into the pads, but other than that it’s a slow delivery which allows Carey to get back two runs after a ball placed at square leg, then sweeps a misfield into the rope for four. finally he goes. Carey takes Test number fifty-nine to go with his hundred only. It would help if you ever bat with the top order!
There was a slight delay in the start of the play in Brisbane when the warm-up ended, some rain had caused it earlier.
Another Test match is, of course, over the ditch in New Zealand, where England are in the process of negotiating with the Kiwis. But … the rain was falling and the start of play was delayed. Still, Rob Smyth is on tools and you can join him here.

Hello from Brisbane. It’s steamy, it’s foggy, it’s humid. The forecast is for rain, it’s just how many of them we arrive at the Gabba after we’ve lost even more of the first day.
India will be the happiest of rain, which has not given so good to them yesterday. Steve Smith’s century, Travis Head’s century, enough said. Alex Carey smashed Australia to 405 by the stumps and returned on 45 not out with Mitchell Starc.
So maybe Australia will bat for a while, but we will have to think about the amount of time left in the match, with three days probably affected by rain.
