Pete Davidson explained his decision to withdraw from his celebrity status, saying he felt “oversaturated.”
Staten Island-born comedian, 31, left his role Saturday Night Live in 2022
At one point he was the main tabloidwith high profile relationships with the likes of Ariana Grande and Kim Kardashian.
However, in a new interview with in the magazine, Davidson said, “I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but I’ve been keeping a low profile.”
He went on to explain his retreat from the spotlight by agreeing that the idea of oversaturation was on his mind.
“You’re 100 percent right, because I was oversaturated,” Davidson told the fashion magazine. “In The Sopranosthere’s this line from Tony that goes, ‘Have you ever felt like you walked into something at the end? When did the good times end?’ That’s how I feel about show business and celebrity. It’s over.
“When you first come and get all these offers, it’s hard to say no, because you’re hungry. I made the mistake of doing literally everything. Now I’m older and wiser, and I realize that less is more. Like Christian Bale. He makes a movie every two or three years, but you watch it. Leo[nardo DiCaprio] he makes one movie every four years, but it’s the biggest thing in the world. It’s because you miss them. People must miss you.”
He added that stepping away from fame was good for his mental health, saying: “Luckily, I got a Hollywood shovel in the face. It took a long time and I needed it. I’m very happy where I’m at right now, mentally.”
As for his future plans, Davidson said, “I just want to be known for doing good work. I only want to be there when it’s a movie, stand-up, charity or business venture. Then I want to be seen. I don’t want to be a fucking loser who just dates people. That’s not me. But people hate celebrities now.
“The media takes a handful of celebrities every few years and just destroys them. For some reason, I’m one of the people they decided to go after. It’s actually, in a way, a blessing, because it allowed me to take a step back and evaluate things. what do you want to be? who are you I’m somebody who’s from Staten Island, he wanted to do stand-up, and if I had to do anything else because of stand-up, it was a miracle.”
Earlier this month, Davidson revealed how he used his first salary from Saturday Night Live.
