The government has announced that nearly 13,500 people have come into power, which officials say proves the slow access to migrants, but which people’s rights campaigners have warned could put lives at risk.
The government says it is on track to rescue the highest number of returns in five years and includes the four biggest ever return flights.

“Our volunteer doctors have visited some of them and documented their physical and psychological scars from gunfire as well as disfigurement due to notoriously dangerous UK immigration detention conditions. Many have been separated from their family, friends and community.
The home secretary, Yvette Cooper, also announced plans to increase enforcement action against migrants found to be working in the UK illegally. On Saturday, he visited Rome to confront him, the Italian interior minister Matthaeus Piantedosi, ordering him to act against the herds.
Cooper said: “Legal labor is the blight on our economy. The Internet has been abused and it has hit those owners who are doing the right thing and playing by the rules.
“With the elections, our efforts are aimed at cracking down on abuses and illegal operations – the number of operations and evicts, and we are on track to meet the goal of increasing the removal to the maximum for five years.”
The government will also strengthen cross-government unity to strengthen security with the establishment of a new joint international irregular migration office composed of officials from the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and the Home Office.
Foreign Secretary David Lammy said: “Immigration is not just a domestic issue. It is engaged with international challenges from conflict to the climate crisis and cross-border crime. Breaking the herd means working with our partners abroad.

“This is the Foreign Office working hand in glove with the Home Office to tackle irregular migration with the new joint international irregular migration unit.”
Steve Valdez-Symonds, Amnesty International UK’s refugee and immigrant rights director, said: “It is deeply disappointing to see such little change of mind or understanding of the new government.
“The move to remove a large number of people from the country is not to reduce human rights abuses or do anything to curb organized crime.
“The dangers are that people with good rights remain or who should be witnesses in the investigation or prosecution of those who abuse them, are suddenly driven out among them.
“The fact that officials have barely had time to repair the damage to the immigration system from the previous administration increases the care that many people have to remove safely and unwisely.”
