Long before the Bruins claimed him off waivers on Saturdaylong before he was selected in the first round of the 2018 draft by the Islanders, and shortly before his 10th birthday, Oliver Wahlstrom was briefly a hockey legend.

In 2009, Walhstrom was a 9-year-old member of the Portland (Maine) Junior Pirates playing mini-a-un, NESN’s long-running youth hockey showcase that airs between periods of Bruins games .

Wahlstrom represented the Junior Pirates in the penalty shootout. He caught the puck on the tip of his stick and skated it lacrosse style toward the net. He then flipped it behind the TD Garden goalie.

The absurdity of the attempt and the fact that it was successful earned him appearances on both SportsCenter and CBS Morning.

Wahlstrom will return to TD Garden this week after the Bruins claimed him off waivers from the New York Islanders.
