WESTFIELD – The project to raise the height of the “high-risk” Powder Mill Dam is one step closer to starting after the City Council approved the allocation of $245,094 for its design and permitting Monday at night
“It’s now undersized and needs to be raised,” City Engineer Allison McMordie said of the dam located about 700 feet south of the city’s transfer station on Twiss Street.
The $245,094 is being combined with $950,000 of America’s Rescue Plan Act money already being appropriated to bring the city closer to meeting the 35 percent ($2.135 million) required to fund the project federal grant of $7.7 million, he said.
