Syrians in Damascus they gathered at the historic Umayyad Mosque for their first Friday prayer after the fall of the dictator Bashar al-Assad‘s mode.
People took to the streets singing and dancing to celebrate the end of the disastrous civil war.
Worshipers, some of whom had traveled across the country to visit the mosque, were seen taking selfies at the memorial.
It came as rallies on Friday (December 13) marked the end of 53 years of authoritarian rule by the Assad family since 1971, when Hafez al-Assad became president under the Baath Party after a 1970 coup.
