WEST SPRINGFIELD – After the upcoming election, West Springfield’s mayor will earn an extra $30,000 a year, even though some officials believe the salary was already adequate.
The City Council last week approved raising the mayor’s salary to $160,000, in a vote of 6 to 3. Meanwhile, the salaries of council members and the School Commission will remain unchanged.
The measure comes weeks after the City Council approved a 3.57% tax increase Residential property owners now have a tax rate of $14.87 per $1,000 of assessed property value. Meanwhile, commercial and industrial property owners will see their rates increase to $30.28 per $1,000.
