Luigi Mangione latest: Police reveal fingerprints at scene of UnitedHealthcare CEO shooting match suspect

A Pennsylvania hotel clerk said Luigi Mangione appeared to be “tucked away” when he tried to book a room at his property Monday morning before the shooting suspect’s arrest.

John Kuklis of the Horseshoe Curve Lodge in Altoona greeted the masked Mangione at the front desk but turned him away because of a lack of clean rooms, he told ABC News.

The hotel is about a 17-minute walk from the McDonald’s where Mangione was arrested Monday.

“He was basically just walking around the cage, just looking around, making sure he wasn’t being watched, asking him if he could get a room here,” he said. “I told him that he wouldn’t be able to get him right now, that our housekeeper hadn’t cleaned the rooms yet, that he had to come back at one o’clock.”

Kuklis said he told Mangione he was not allowed to wait at the hotel, prompting the suspect to leave without saying a word or removing his mask.

Logan Township officers called Kulis and asked if Mangione was staying at the hotel.

After arriving at the premises and looking at his security footage, Kuklis said he was told, “Yeah, that’s him.”

Luigi Mangione’s fingerprints were allegedly taken from a Starbucks water bottle and a cell phone that the shooting suspect dropped near the crime scene, according to law enforcement sources.

Police initially said prints found on items on the day of Brian Thompson’s fatal shooting in midtown Manhattan were smudged.

But two sources told ABC News they appear to match prints taken after Mangione was arrested in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on Monday.

Luigi Mangione’s fingerprints match fingerprints collected at the scene of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson’s murder, law enforcement sources said CNN Wednesday.

The development comes two days after a 26-year-old man was arrested in Altoona, Pennsylvania, after a McDonald’s employee recognized him in photos distributed by the NYPD.

Mangione appeared at an extradition hearing on Tuesday, contesting being transferred to New York, where he faces charges of second-degree murder. The judge denied him bail.

“It’s completely out of touch and an insult to the intelligence of the American people and their lived experience!” Mangione shouted as he was escorted into the Blair County courthouse.

Luigi Mangione’s attorney says he has seen no evidence linking the gun found in his client’s possession during his arrest Monday to the one used by Brian Thompson’s killer in Manhattan last week.

“I am not aware of any evidence linking the gun found on him to the crime. These are the things we want to see,” Thomas Dickey told Good Morning America host George Stephanoplous on Wednesday morning.

When Stephanoplous stated that the gun “looked exactly the same as the one used” by the gunman who killed Thompson, Dickey replied, “A lot of guns look the same.”

The attorney said he hopes to “get hold” of other evidence, including the so-called 262-word manifesto allegedly written by Mangione, as early as Wednesday.

“Today is another day. We look forward to beginning our investigation into what evidence may or may not be there.”
