Police are investigating another break-in at a professional athlete’s home in the latest string of burglaries involving NFL and NBA players.
Authorities say someone broke into the home of Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow while he was playing in an NFL game Monday night against the Dallas Cowboys.
According to the Hamilton County Sheriff, officers responded to Burrow’s home in Cincinnati shortly after 8:00 p.m. local time after a call from a woman who said she found a window broken and a room ransacked inside when he arrived. The investigation is ongoing.
Thefts at athletes’ homes
Burrow’s home is the latest in a string of burglaries targeting the homes of NBA and NFL athletes.
In October, the houses of Kansas City Chiefs superstars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce they split a few days apart.
“Obviously, it’s frustrating, it’s disappointing,” Mahomes said in November after the attack, which happened in October.
Travis Kelce said in a May 2024 podcast episode with his brother, former NFL player Jason Kelce, that someone posted his house online and he started getting a lot of mail.
“The one thing you don’t realize when someone posts your house online is that now everyone just has your address,” Kelce said.
The NFL isn’t the only league where players have been robbed.
After entries a Bobby Portis, forward of the Milwaukee Bucks‘ and the home of Minnesota Timberwolves guard Mike Conley Jr., both the NBA and NFL warned players to take extra precautions, telling them that thieves appear to be collecting details about their homes, belongings and whereabouts at social networks.
Last month, sources told CBS News that the FBI is investigating whether the high-profile incidents are linked and whether a transnational criminal network is behind the robberies.
