SNL fans in disbelief over internet star’s cameo with Paul Mescal: ‘What universe are we in?’

Saturday Night Live viewers did not expect to see the controversial internet personality Trisha Paytas in the long run NBC a series of sketches.

Gladiator 2 star Paul Mescal host of Saturday (December 7) night’s episode, performing the opening monologue and appearing in numerous skits in addition to repetition SNL cast members.

One skit saw them joking around Spotify recently released the 2024 Wrap. which shows users their most played songs and artists from the past year.

In the scene, Mescal shows his friends (played by Andrew Dismukes, Ego Nwodim and Sarah Sherman) his top-stream, which is Satoshi Gutman – an “anti-instrumentalist sound guru from Dundalk, Maryland” played by Bowen Yang.

After playing Gutman’s song “Y’all Made Me Celibate,” Mescal shows the others a clip from a fictional artist’s podcast featuring Paytas as a guest.

“Hey bastards!” she exclaims.

“What do we always say, Trisha?” Guttman asks. Together, they say, “the best occupation is celibacy.”

Sherman exclaims “this is so crazy,” but Mescal insists that Spotify Wrapped “isn’t about judging people.”

It’s about sharing the music of your life. Call me crazy, but I think it’s something to celebrate,” says Mescal.

Gutman and Paytas then appear for a personal visit. The internet star later appeared on stage with the rest of the cast as Mescal said goodbye to the audience at the end of the evening’s episode.

At X, viewers reacted in disbelief when they saw Paytas in a mainstream entertainment setting.

“Paul mescal says ‘thanks Trisha paytas’ guys what universe are we in,” one person asked.

Another added: “Pop culture is so much fun lately. looks contests, hitman exec memes, what’s next???? trisha paytas on snl??”

“trisha paytas debuting on snl??? what the hell of course,” wrote a third.

“Trisha Paytas is the queen of being the worst person ever and constantly rewarded for it,” added another.

Paytas is known for her dramatic vlogs on YouTube, where she has amassed more than five million subscribers and one billion views. She was accused in the past creating clickbait content on topics ranging from her plastic surgery to her sexuality in order to gain fame.

Somewhere else on Mescal SNL debut, Irish actor put a musical spin on Gladiator continuationled by Lucious Verus Aurelius, illegitimate offspring of Maximus Decimus Meridius Russell Crowe.

The actor sang through the parody song “No Place Like Rome” while flying from the Colosseum on a broomstick wearing a witch’s hat – a nod to Cynthia Erivo’s performance of “Defying Gravity” as Elphaba in Wicked.
