David Tennant was announced as the next year’s host Bafta ceremony.
The 2025 event will mark the 53-year-old star’s second consecutive appearance as host after charming opening speech at this year’s awards.
Tennant is known for his roles in Doctor Who, Good Omensand this year’s raunchy Disney+ hit Rivals.
“We couldn’t be happier about it David Tennant returns as host to EE BAFTA film awards in 2025,” said Jane Millchip, chief executive of Bafta. “He is an absolute pleasure to work with and his performance this year was simply outstanding – warm, witty, whip-smart and with a wonderful touch of mischief.
Jane continues: “It’s a privilege to share Britain’s biggest film celebration with TV audiences around the world and to recognize the extraordinary creativity of those who drive the British and global film industry.”
Tennant’s other notable credits include Broadchurch and, in the theater he played a Scotsman “convincingly intense” Macbeth last year at the Donmar warehouse in London.
Last November, he returned to his latest role as the titular Time Lord in the BBC’s long-running Doctor Who. In three hour-long special episodes, he passed the mantle to his successor, Sexual education star of Little Friend.
“You have to feel for Gatva, who will have his work cut out for him when he takes over the Tardis,” The Independent’s Ed Power wrote in his four star rating from the 60th anniversary special. “It will be like after Freddie Mercury at Glastonbury.
“Tennant captures the essence of the Doctor. He really feels like a time-traveling alien trying to pass for a human, and a terrifying act will follow.”
More than 220 titles have been shortlisted for next year’s Bafta awards. The first round of voting is already open, and the long lists are expected on January 3, and the final list will be published on January 15 after the end of voting.

Bafta will return to the Royal Festival Hall in London’s Southbank Center on Sunday 16 February. It will air on BBC One (or Britbox in the US and Australia) and will be available to stream later on BBC iPlayer.
